10050 Cielo Drive, Benedict Canyon, part of Beverly Crest, north of Beverly Hills, Los Angeles, California.

Also known as the Tate-Polanski residence, 10050 Cielo Drive was the address where Charles Manson sent Tex Watson to commit the most notorious murders of the century.

The house was torn-down in 1994 and the numeric address has been changed to 10066 Cielo Drive.

At the time of the murders the home was owned by Rudolph Altobelli, a music and film industry talent manager who often rented it to other celebrities.

In February 1969, Roman Polanski and his wife Sharon Tate began renting the home from Altobelli.

On August 9, 1969, the home became the scene of the murders of Tate, Wojciech Frykowski, Abigail Folger, Jay Sebring, and Steven Parent at the hands of Manson and his followers.

Prior to the Polanski rental it was rented by record producer Terry Melcher and his girlfriend Candice Bergen. Prior to the killings Manson had turned up at the house on several occasions “looking for Melcher” although he was told on at least one occasion that Melcher had moved.

Manson was furious at Melcher for what he said Terry had “given his word on a few things and never came through with them.” Some have speculated that the house was chosen, irregardless of who was in it, to scare Melcher, which it did. The incidenct terrified Melcher and he hired a bodyguard afterwards telling prosecutor  Vincent Bugliosi he had been undergoing psychiatric treatment. Melcher died in 2004 convinced that he had been Charles Manson’s intended murder victim at Cielo Drive.
