The vicinity of the crimes were within the Los Angeles and Hollywood area of Southern California near popular spots such as Malibu, Beverly Hills and Santa Monica. The crimes took place during the summer of 1969.

With its beautiful weather and booming entertainment business, Southern California remains one the most desirable places to live in the US with what is said to be the best weather in the entire world.  At the time of the crimes young men and women were drawn to the city from all across America with the hope of peace, love and free drugs.
