Donald Shea... (Victim)

Donald Jerome Shea (aka Donald "Shorty" Shea)

Donald Shorty Shea (Victim) Donald Shorty Shea was a Spahn Ranch stunt man and horse wrangler who had been killed approximately 10 days after the August 16, 1969 raid on the ranch.

Donald Shea, born on September 18, 1933, was a Spahn Ranch stuntman, actor and horse wrangler who had been killed approximately 10 days after the August 16, 1969, sheriff's raid on the ranch.

Manson, who suspected that Shea helped set up the raid, had apparently believed Shea was trying to get Spahn to run the Family off the ranch.

The location of his body was not discovered until in December 1977, nearly a decade after his death. Manson family leader Charles Manson and family members Steve "Clem" Grogan and Bruce Davis were eventually convicted of the murder although it is believed that Tex Watson, Bill Vance and Larry Bailey (alias Larry Giddings) were also participants in the murder.

Donald "Shorty" Shea had talked with the Manson Family in jail after Spahn Ranch raid and it is believed that Shea had known things about the Tate-La Bianca Murders after talking to Family Members.

Shea was tortured and it is reported that the Family toyed with his mental state before killing him. After Shea's murder, the Family burned and buried his belongings to keep the murder a secret. Shea's skeletal remains were discovered on a hillside near Santa Susana Road next to Spahn Ranch only after Steve Grogan agreed to aid authorities in the recovery by drawing a map to its location. According to the autopsy report, his body suffered multiple stab and chopping wounds to the chest and blunt force trauma to the head.
